You Gotta Have Some Fun In Your Workday

I have a question for you…do you have fun at work? I know we’re supposed to be all professional and everything, but I like to have fun at work. After all, we spend the greater part of our life at work, so if it makes us unhappy and there’s no laughter, why bother. I’d just think without some fun at work, it’s time to move on.

Take my work for example…we laugh a lot. In fact, there’s an assistant here that is so clever and has such a great sense of humor, she’d be wealthy if she could sell it. Then there’s the assistant who just plain doesn’t let anything get to her and when she just tells it like it is…it’s truly hilarious! Oh, and the third assistant absolutely nothing surprises her or offends her and she just says what’s on her mind…no censure. If it’s TMI, I just tell them (although I’m pretty difficult to offend.) In the midst of all the Mach ten, hair on fire… we find humor.

We all communicate through facial expressions and hand motions (if you get my drift). They don’t get paid without my two hands and I’d be lost without theirs; we make it a Team effort to get the work done AND have a few laughs while we’re at it.

I’ve been in offices with sour pusses and it’s no fun; in fact, a sour puss (just a totally unhappy person) recently left our office and the mood was instantaneously lifted (amazing!). I recommend laugh a little, or laugh a lot…especially at yourself. Even if you only have one ally in the office with whom to share your expletives…laugh…it’s good for your soul.

So, here’s one for a good belly laugh (unless it makes you cry): A dental friend of mine called to vent; one of her patients (a welfare recipient) called to cancel their appointment.

Keep in mind she believes very strongly that there are times when government assistance is necessary. The system is designed for families experiencing difficult financial times such as the loss of a job, they suddenly become single parents, or they lose their home. However, this patient called to cancel their appointment because they were vacationing…in Europe!!

“People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.”
